I thought I would share a variety of projects I’ve worked on lately.  First up are these fun clothespin magnets I made using dollar store clothespins, acrylic paint, a yoyo maker, Mod Podge, button, pearl beads and a glue gun.  The project went together lickity split and they are packaged in a way that would make a great gift for a teacher, friend or neighbor.  Notice the twisty tie is handmade also and matches the paper on the clothespins.

I’ve seen a few decorated clothespins of late but wanted to put my own spin on them, so I took matters in my own hands and this is the result.  First I took the clothespins apart and painted the entire wood part with acrylic paint.  The top of the paper was first sealed with Mod Podge with just one layer to make it a bit more durable.  I adhered the clothespins to the paper with Mod Podge and then applied a thin coat over everything.  After the Mod Podge dried, I took a craft knife to trim away the excess paper.  I then put the clothespins back together and went onto making the fabric yoyo.  My yoyo’s were made with my Clover Yoyo Maker and a few scraps of fabric left over from my quilted tote bag.  My trusty glue gun was used to adhere the yoyo to the front of the clothespins (now turned refrigerator magnet).  A button and a few beads were added to the top for a little more pizzazz, and magnets were added to the back with my glue gun to finish the project.

Twisty ties are really easy to make.  I saw a tutorial by Leanne over at Organize and Decorate Everything recently and thought they were a great idea.  However, I thought the paper may rip when being twisted on the bag, so I added a layer of Mod Podge on the front of the paper to make it a bit more durable and set it aside to dry.  By adding that light layer of Mod Podge, the tie twisted without tears and I was very happy with the result.  Paper was cut into 1/4″ strips and about 5″-6″ long and red tape was used on the inside of one of the strips.  Next I placed a piece of wire down the center of the taped paper and added the second layer of paper and voila’, the twisty tie was complete.  Cute beyond words, wouldn’t you say?

Quilled Tulip Card

Next up is this pretty tulip card I made.  Inspiration for this card came from All Things Paper, and if you are a paper lover then you will absolutely, positively love this blog.  The creations and projects from Ann are beyond amazing.  So when I was looking for a card depicting Spring, I had to look no further than Ann’s blog for inspiration.  Ann’s card was made for Valentine’s Day, but I decided to make the tulips in a pastel color for my project.  Each tulip was made using a few quilling strips and a green strip was run through my crimping tool to add just a hint of dimension and to anchor the flowers.  My polka dots embossing folder from Cuttlebug was used on the white cardstock and I used a Fiskars border punch for the upper and bottom edges.  Two pearls were added on each side of the white embossed sentiment and the card was complete.  I really love how this card turned out, and my desire for a Spring-like card was achieved.  Inspiration from Ann’s card, but changed up to make it my own.  Thanks to Ann for her beautiful blog and inspiration.

Bunny basket

Last but not least is this cute bunny Easter basket.  A shape I downloaded from the Silhouette store was used for the box and a very, very old template from Stampin’ Up! was traced and cut out for the bunny.  Several paper punches, Stickles, chalk, ink and ribbon were all used to give this bunny her cuteness and Martha Stewart fringe scissors was the perfect solution to make the grass.  I think this turned out quite nice.

Well that’s it for today.  Enjoy your day and God Bless.

Yesterday got away from me and I didn’t even have a few minutes to add a post, so I thought I would share a few projects today.

First up is the “Dish Rug”.  This project is designed and shared by Connie over at her blog called “Quilting by the River“.  She has quite a few tutorials on her blog, but I chose this particular one because of its practicality, minimal supplies and ease in assembly.  Sometimes a quick and easy project is just the ticket to get that sewing machine humming along.

I love the idea of a “Dish Rug”.  I often sit a dish towel on the counter to air dry dishes that I’ve hand washed.  Light bulb moment here and a great idea from Connie….   Why not enjoy a quilt on the countertop that is both practical and pretty while doing the dishes?  I certainly have never thought to make a little quilt to air dry dishes, have you?  It’s quite clever and practical and one I just had to share with you today.

Next up are 2 cutting files for those who enjoy their Silhouettes and other cutting machines.  The talented artist behind these beautiful designs is Monica Bjork from “Monica’s Creative Room“.  Monica is certainly creative as her website says, but she is also an incredibly talented gal.  I just can’t seem to find the words to describe how amazing these paper creations are.  So, wordless as I am, I’ll just let the pictures do the talking and introduce you to Monica’s Creative Room.

A relatively short post today in words, but one that certainly packs a punch as far as creativity is concerned.  I want to thank both Monica and Connie for their wonderful blogs and for these amazing projects.

Until tomorrow, have a Blessed Day.

I enjoy using my Silhouette Cameo so much that I can’t stop raving about it.  The Silhouette replaces so many products in my craft room including most of my punches and in some cases stamps.  As you can tell from this card, the words are cut out rather than being stamped which gave it another layer of dimension.  In any case, I enjoy making projects with my Cameo so it made total sense to use cut images for this year’s Valentine Card to my sweet hubby.   Shhhhh, he hasn’t seen this yet:-)

In addition to the cut images that I either purchased or received as a free download, I decided to jump in with both feet and design the scalloped edge card base myself.  It took much trial and error but I’m quite happy with the final result.  I know I could have purchased a scalloped edge card base from the Silhouette store, but I just felt the need to create something from start to finish myself.  Albeit, a simple, simple design, it’s my own efforts that put it together and that was the goal.  As I learn more I hope to try my hand at designing files that are more detailed and intricate.  Once I get a bit more proficient at designing, I’ll be sharing those file for free here on this blog.

Now onto the card.  The “Love Birds” image was designed by Samantha Walker and can be purchased at the Silhouette Online Store.  I think the image is quite beautiful and appropriate for this occasion.  The inside “love” pop up is a free download from Under a Cherry Tree.  Jin is an incredibly talented artist and has a wealth of information that she shares on her blog.  Jin also offers tutorials on You Tube that have been quite helpful to me as a new Silhouette owner.  I can’t thank Jin enough for sharing her time, talent and inspiration to those of us needing the extra help!

Even though this card is for my hubby, I couldn’t resist adding the pearls & ribbon.  I also tried my hand at making a stick pin to add just a bit more interest to the card.  Our granddaughter, Morgan, chose all of the beads for the pin and I think she did a super job.

I couldn’t be more pleased with how this card turned out and hope he enjoys it on Tuesday.

Thank you for visiting and stay tuned for my next post which will be a new baby quilt that should be finished by this evening.

The daughter of dear friends of ours and her hubby welcomed their firstborn, a daughter named Kennedy, into their family on 11/1/11.  I have been anxious to make a card and quilt, but with all of the craziness of the past few months, I wasn’t able to give it the time I felt it deserved.  I was finally able to sit down today and make a card to welcome this sweet bundle of joy.  Making the quilt is next on my agenda and once it’s completed I’ll share it with you.

I spent the entire day working on the design, coloring and cutting and re-sizing a variety of shapes with my new Silhouette Cameo.  It was such a pleasure to spend the day working on such a fun card.

Being a newbie to the Silhouette world, I started out by downloading a few designs to start the project.  The oval with the scalloped edge, the top border (without the cutout circles) and the tag were all downloads from the Silhouette Store.  You gotta love the ability to download an image anytime it’s needed without running out to buy a costly cartridge.

I wanted to use the large scalloped shape as a matte and have a white oval to stamp and color the design.  Since the scalloped oval didn’t have a topper I enjoyed playing around with the various tools to design one to fit.  I worked and re-worked the dimensions of the white smaller oval to fit just inside leaving a tiny border.  It took 4 tries, but in the end it was the perfect size and fit.  The top border was also a design that I downloaded from the Silhouette site.  However, I couldn’t leave well enough alone and opted to add a white glittered topper to the border.  Now that was a design feat in itself, at least for me.  Why you ask?  Because the original design didn’t have the cutout circles and it had to be resized to fit over the pink border.  That took a bit of time for me, but in the end it turned out just as it looked in my mind’s eye.  The sentiment was stamped on another image downloaded from the Silhouette Online Store.  Again, the white portion was resized to fit over the bottom layer leaving just a hint of pink showing.  By the time I got to the sentiment design it was much easier and faster to reformat the size.

Thanks are in order for those fantastic tutorials and members over at the Silhouette Plus Group.  I would have never known how to use the offset function or make duplicate images if it weren’t for those wonderful gals.  Thanks so much for sharing your time and talent to help all the newbies like myself.

Well that’s it for today.  Thank you for visiting and have a Blessed New Year!!!
