With all of the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Thanksgiving last month and then making gifts and preparing for Christmas, I’ve been very lax in posting. However, one project that I’ve been working on for a bit is finished and in the mail and I want to share it with you. It’s a baby quilt. I shared the card I made for Baby Gus (his given name is Charles, but his Grandpa’s nickname is Gus) awhile back. I didn’t want to do a conventional pastel blue type of quilt, and got the inspiration from Melissa Mortenson over at Polka Dot Chair. A few subtle difference in the our quilts, Melissa used a Layer Cake whereas I chose to use a Charm Pack, specifically Wee Woodland by Moda. I purchased the Moda Charm Pack at Burgundy Buttons. (As a side note, I love Burgundy Buttons and have purchased from Leah several times and would highly recommend her store) Anyway, back to the point, I fell in love with the Wee Woodland Charm Pack and as soon as I saw the collection I knew this would be perfect for Gus’ quilt. For the applique’ I used letters in MS Word on my computer, resized and printed them to use as a template for the name. By the way, if you look closely at the “U”, you’ll see I made a “fussy cut” and was able to capture the squirrel at the bottom of the letter. I searched for a cowboy hat design online (my hubby actually found this copyright free image) which I downloaded, resized and made a template to applique’ onto the quilt. I think it turned out really cute and it is certainly unique and one of a kind. Thanks to Melissa for her inspiration!!
By the way, Melissa has a fabulous Blog as well as an online store. I’ve purchased from her before and I can tell you first-hand that she is friendly, very helpful and I love her designs. I purchased her March Bag Pattern which I’ve yet to complete, but when I find the time to finish it I’ll be sure to share it with you. In the meantime, have a great day and I hope to share more of the many projects I’ve been working on soon.
