I’ve been a busy bee the past 2 days and have completed one more card. This card is for our son-in-law, Michael, whose birthday is on Sunday.
When designing this or any card I generally choose the main image first. This time I chose the very cute (Three Cupcake Design from Meljen’s Design). Moving forward I decide on just the right papers for the occasion. In this case, I first looked around some sites for inspiration on color combinations but soon discovered most masculine cards were browns and dark blues, why, I don’t know. Men like colorful cards too, don’t they? Anyway, I just knew I wanted something a little more festive so I plunged into my stash of papers and pulled out several choices to audition.
The yellow swirl paper seemed to be the best choice for the background. From that point I pulled out several other papers, but in the end I felt the purple swirl minus the lime green & black edge complimented the yellow background paper the best so it was added to the mix. The layout and everything else was trial and error as it always is for me. I typically don’t have a design in mind and I just add/subtract elements until it looks right to me. The word “Celebrate” was placed on a bit of an angle just for something different, but now I’m not sure I like that.
