Lately I’ve been busy working on quilted purses for our granddaughters. The first was posted previously. I just finished bag number 2 for our oldest granddaughter Kaitlin (aka the Katie Bear). Her favorite color is blue. I went through 2 fabric options before settling on this one. I like how it turned out, very Springlike. For the quilting I decided to run a vertical row on the flap and bottom of the bag and a diagonal line for the rest of the bag.
Bag number 3 is for our granddaughter, Kylie (aka the Kyster). It will be cut, quilted and sewn in the next day or so but I wanted to share the fabric I’ll be using for that project with you ahead of time. Her favorite colors are pink and purple so these are the perfect choices for her bag.
Each bag takes just 2 fat quarters to complete. My Mom taught me to be frugal when cutting fabric, so I always have chunks of fabric scraps left over once a project is completed. As a tribute to her and a fun project for the girls and I to work on is to make YoYo Flip Flops using the leftover scraps. My granddaughters and I will be making those together during my visit with them. I’m excited to be teaching them a little bit about hand sewing.
The idea for this project came from the blog by Michael Miller Fabrics called “Making It Fun”. I bought the YoYo Makers from Clover at JoAnn’s last week and was able to get one of them at 40% off with a coupon. I’m anxious to open them up and give this new notion a try.
